Club News

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

This Week ~ 5:30pm Merchant Social with Duane Strawser

Tour Nevada City Bike Shop owner and Nevada City Councilman Duane Strawser is our spotlighted merchant for this month's 1st Thursday Social. As a cyclist, business owner, and City Councilman, Duane is the force behind the Nevada City Classic and bringing the Amgen Tour of California to our community.  Don't miss this week's Merchant Social as we welcome Duane!

Last Week ~ Rock Creek Nature Hike

Once again our Rock Creek Nature Hike was filled with adventure and lots of Smokey Bear hugs. This year featured Smokey in selfies with the Forest Service and the youth. NC Rotary flipped over 120 hamburgers and vegie burgers and served up dozens upon dozens of cookies.  The Seven Hills Leadership Class paired with special needs students of Seven Hills and Union Hill Middle Schools for a special hike with Forest Service naturalists. The students learned about the forest, trees, bugs, bats, birds and more.

Thank you to all who participated in making our day be a very special one for the students and all!

Scholarships granted

Emily GollubA warm congratualtions to Emily Gollup and thank you to our Scholarship Committee - Nicole, Walt and Gayle - for selecting Emily for a $1,500 renewable academic scholarship. Her scholarship was awarded Thursday night at Nevada Union Scholarship Night. Many of you will remember Emily who spoke with us at last year's Fair Picnic about her life altering experience at RYLA. Proud Godfather and incoming President Dave Bunje was not part of the selection process and beamed about the surprise presentation. Emily will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology in New York focusing on filmmaking/film production.

Congratulations also to Emana Manes and Samantha Alfke. We awarded Emana Manes with a $500 Vocational Scholarship. She plans to study Child Development at Sierra College. The $500 Buckle Up Scholarship was awarded to Bear River graduate Samantha Alfke.  She is planning to study Nursing at South Dakota State.
