This week Merchant Mixer at 5:30pm
Our guest merchant this week is Len Bernardi, owner of Mountain House Books.

This coming weekend is Far West PETS in San Jose.  Both PE Dave Bunje and ADGE Dennis Geare will be joining the Rotary International festivities as our incoming leaders gather to plan and celebrate our next Rotary year July 2015-June 2016.

Last week: Nevada Union Interact Club
Co-Presidents Eden Baker & Rebecca Hofheinz of Nevada Union Interact Club shared moving stories of their interact Club trips to Mexico with Project Amigo Service Project.  They were just back from their most recent trip working with disadvantaged children of Colima in rural Mexico near Guadalajara.  Nevada Union Interact Club is an engaged, lit up group of high school youth.  Eden and Becca both attended RYLA and then served as counselors at REGLE (8th Grade Leadership) in October.

Happy Birthday Rotary!
Rotary celebrated 110 years and 30 years with Polio Plus. A big THANK YOU to Cathy for our Happy Birthday hats and decorations and for a most delicious carrot birthday cake!  We also enjoyed having Allan Rogers with us to sing a very special rendition of Happy Birthday and then lead a group round.

Nevada City Rotary International Service Project in Baja ~ April 25-26 Rotary At Work Day
PP John Hensley is organizing a local school repair work project in Los Cabos, Mexico.  We are firming up hotel reservations and plans with Rotarians in Baja.  Please let John know your intentions if you are joining us! We are expecting a group of 14 or more!

If you are not able to go, but want to contribute to supplies and materials for the schools please see John!  Participating Rotarians will be donating their airfare and hotel expenses; our club will pay for paint, brushes and other repair materials.

Phase 1Dates of work project are April 25-26. Most of us will travel Thursday April 23 and return Tuesday or Thursday April 28 - 30. Work would entail painting and repair work on local schools impacted by recent hurricanes.  We are partnering with Los Barriles Rotary Club.

Planning to join us?  Please let John Hensley know!!! Airfare to the Los Cabos International Airport is estimated to be $379 round trip per person.  John is coordinating hotel arrangements. Members of the Los Barriles Rotary Club (45 miles north of the San Jose airport) will help provide transportation from the Los Cabos Airport.  Some Rotarians might want to rent cars so they can explore before or after the work project.

Phase 2 – After our work project this May we will be partnering with the Los Barriles Rotary Club to submit a grant request to our District for funds to provide more extensive upgrading of these schools.  Grant amount will be determined after the May trip.

Preparing for our One World Leadership Team from Kazakhstan in September
International Chair Carolyn Feuille has confirmed with our One World Coordinator that our Club is going to be groundbreakers hosting the first ever delegation from Kazakhstan!  The Entrepreneurship delegation will include five participants (4 delegates and 1 facilitator) from Kazakhstan. We are being connected with Rotary Clubs who have hosted delegations from Russia, Serbia and Ukraine -- a Russian delegation of Women Entrepreneurs will be with Seminole County South Rotary Club, FL next month.

Mystery Rotarian ~ from Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, Club Services
Nancy Kemp was very quick to identify last week's Mystery Rotarian as Judy Soldavini.  Several other correct guesses came in after Nancy's so it pays to be quick.

Watch this space for another Mystery Rotarian next week!  If you have not given Cathy a few juices tidbits about yourself, please do!
