Rotario ~ May 28, 2015

News

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

THIS WEEK - Thursday May 28
MOVED TO Rock Creek Nature Hike
Meet at 9am - Harmony Ridge Market Hwy 20

Our Rock Creek Nature Hike is always an unforgetable moment.  The Seven Hills Leadership Class is paired with special needs students of Seven Hills and Union Hill Middle Schools for a special hike. The Forest Service will lead the students on a wheelchair-accessible nature hike while we Rotarians flip burgers on the grill.  A special guest (Smokey or Woody) will greet us after lunch.  We are expecting a larger group than prior years!  All hands on deck to help serve. If you have a grill you can bring, we can always use one more. Bring your fresh cookies to share.

We will meet at 9am at John Hensley's Hwy 20 office at Harmony Ridge Market to carpool/caravan. We should wrap up around 1pm. For reference, Old 5 Mile House is directly across Hwy 20 from John's office.

Last Week

Nevada City Rotary Club of ExcellenceIf you missed our accolades from District Conference take a moment to review last week's Rotario entitled Rotario ~ Congratulations Nevada City Rotary

Sharing our recognition and thank yous was a key element of last week's meeting!

Dawn Zydonis, Parks & Recreation Supervisor presented an update on services provided around our City by Nevada City Parks & Recreation.

Mystery Rotarian

This one stumped most of us and it is non-other than our own incoming President Dave Bunje!

  1. Although trained in History, this Rotarian's teaching career was in Journalism and English.
  2. Italian Rotarians took this person to see the Bolshoi Ballet, in the Bolshoi Theater.
  3. Love of children took this Rotarian to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
  4. Although a person of letters, this Rotarian has five physicians in the family.
  5. This Rotarian celebrated the 100th anniversary of Rotary by helping construct an observatory, which has the best telescope between Reno and UC Davis.
  6. Members of this person's extended family have been Rotarians since 1945.

Adventures & Wine Planning ~ Next Meeting:

Penn Valley Rotary hosted the Drew Reynolds Memorial Co-Ed Softball Tournament at Western Gateway Park. This was the twelveth year for the tournament honoring Drew who was killed in his UPS truck by a driver high on methamphetamines. The event promotes healthy lifestyle choices especially for youth.
