Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Thursday June 3, 2021 - Social 5:30pm
Celebrating our 2021 High School Scholarship Recipients
Host: Nicole Dillard, Vocational Services Chair
June is here! With the long warm days of Summer come all the joyous activities we love - Barbeques with family and friends, tending our gardens, a refreshing swim at a local lake or river, ice cream cones on a sunny afternoon, an outdoor concert or a ball game, and for the younger generation, graduations and weddings. This is my favorite time of the year, with Nature bursting with exuberant growth and so many different things to choose from to make the most of each day. And the great news this year is that we can finally start to come together again to enjoy the company of our families and friends.
Celebrating our 2021 High School Scholarship Recipients
Speaking of graduations, our program this week focuses on the local students that our Club has selected to receive scholarships to assist them with their educational and vocational goals. Nevada City Rotary awarded scholarships to:
- Connor McGehee - $1500. Graduating from Bear River High School, Connor is university bound and currently intends to major in Agricultural Business or Veterinary Sciences
- Patrick Farrell - $750. Graduating from Nevada Union High School, Patrick is university bound and currently intends to major in Biology
- James Seeberg - $750. Graduating from Nevada Union High School, James is headed to junior college and currently intends to major in Agricultural Business, Business, or Construction Management
We look forward to hearing more from a couple of our youth scholars.
Looking to the new Rotary year ...
With June comes the end of our Rotary year and the transition to our new Club leadership on July 1. The Club Board and I are working with our incoming co-Presidents Tom Ryan and Dave Denney to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. One of the exciting “changes” we will see with the new Rotary year 2021-2022 is the resumption of face-to-face Club meetings and Socials.
Cathy Wilcox-Barnes is heading up a team that is searching for a new location for our meetings. The team is also working to transition our meetings to a hybrid format where we can have full participation of attending Club members and a Zoom connection for anyone who not able to meet in person. We will have more information available very soon, along with a survey to request input from Club members.
Food Bank of Nevada County - Fresh Produce Project
Our District Grant to provide fresh produce to the Food Bank of Nevada County has been funded and will be completed in June. Our hands-on efforts will be packing food boxes for home delivery one day and packing summer lunches for youth a second day. And yes, the time frames for the two days are different. Please contact Susie to volunteer at the Food Bank with us:

Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary. They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom. Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond. Thanks for sharing you!
