Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Empowering Children of Tanzania through Education - Timothy Massawe
This week we are putting an International Service spin on our weekly program as we welcome our guest speaker from Africa. Timothy Massawe has been a Rotarian since 2011. He is a Past President and Charter member of the Rotary Club of Hai-Kilimanjaro and is currently an Assistant Governor for District 9211. He holds two law degrees, one from the Moshi Cooperative University (2016) and the other from the Law School of Tanzania (2017).
He established an NGO called Saidia Agriculture and Social Care Organization (SASCO) which sponsors children who cannot afford an education. Over 200 children have been helped, many of them are university graduates, including one student who has achieved his dream of becoming a medical doctor.
Timothy’s passion is raising funds to support children who have academic potential but due to poverty are unable to reach their goals. His own struggle as the youngest child of peasants in a family of 10 has fueled his work. His parents sold a tree in their backyard to obtain school admission fees when he was 15, but were not able to pay school fees and he was suspended. A kind nun gave him the confidence to explain his situation to the Head Mistress who helped him, and at the National Exams he was the only student who passed and was therefore eligible for a government scholarship. He uses his own example to inspire the students who are sponsored by the NGO he established.
ACME Robotics Returns - Thursday 5:30pm Social!
Talk about inspired, the ACME Robotics Team rose above the fog and excelled this year using CAD (Computer Aided Design), Zoom, and lots of ingenuity to communicate and create a physical robot along with a virtual robot for this year’s competition! What an amazing team of brilliant super stars! Watch out world -- they are planning our future! Feels like we are in good hands!
Our Club was proud to again present sponsorship checks to both the ACME Robotics Inc. team and the Midnight Girls robotics team (Girl Scout Troop #181). Two of the ACME team members are coaching the Midnight Girls team. Plus we learned that Emma, who got into tech and robotics through our Girls Who Code program is headed to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to study engineering. Dave Bunje was in town and also joined in our meeting.

Nevada County Vaccine Clinics need Volunteers
We have two opportunities to serve our community as the effort to get COVID immunizations to everybody in the County is moving forward.

- Four hour shifts either 8:30-12:30 or 12:30-4:30, Monday-Friday
- Walking many miles a day within our clinic building escorting patients from registration to exam room
- Vaccinated individuals preferred (we can vaccinate them if necessary)
- Registration in DHV required
- Start date as soon as possible

Your Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!
Thank you Treasurer Tom Ryan for your ongoing diligence with our finances. And thank you Club members for following the Four Way Test with your pledges to our Club! If you have questions, Tom R is happy to discuss your statement with you.
Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary. They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom. Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond. Thanks for sharing you!
